? Elizabeth listens to each client or committee share their unique story, identity, and what has meaning for them, and incorporates it into the design.

STORY:

Devereaux�s designs tell the story of each client and place. And because the designs suggest the story, rather than realistically render it, there is room for interpretation. The windows are living, not static.

THE QUALITIES OF LIGHT:

? Light defines architecture, is prismatic, refractive or reflective. Sunlight can project color and texture onto the floor and walls, translucent glass diffuses, and transparent glass allows in the outside view.

REFLECTION AND PATTERN:

? Devereaux often distills the meaning or sense of place of a commission into an �icon� with painted, kiln-fired glass enamels, or etched into the glass surface .

LAYERING:

? For Elizabeth, �life has layers of meaning.� Her work too incorporates layers:

o geometry is often laid down first, similar to the �base� in music.

o micro layers of mouth blown glass define the theme or �melody�.

o Surface detail - lead overlays, gold and silver luster reflective patterns are painted and kiln-fired onto the glass surface. At night, instead of �going dead�, with ambient light the glass brilliantly reflects the movement in the room.

SITE SPECIFIC:

? Always sensitive to the site, light, and the architecture, Devereaux fully integrates the art glass into its setting, while telling the story of each unique place.
