Jasenka Kapitanovic is a Croatian-born sculptor and visual artist based in Bavaria, Germany. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Restoration in Split (1996), she has nearly three decades of experience in sculpture, painting, and sacred art.
Her artistic practice encompasses monumental sculpture, architectural bronze portals, carved wooden reliefs, stained glass, and site-specific works conceived in dialogue with sacred architecture.
Her major completed commissions include the monumental bronze Pietà in Vinjani Gornji, architectural bronze portals for churches in Croatia, the fourteen Stations of the Cross in Trstenik, and the Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy in Žnjan, Split, featuring nine original carved and gilded wooden reliefs.
Working across traditional and contemporary materials, Kapitanovic combines figurative expression with a deeply contemplative approach to form, light, and space.
Her works have been exhibited internationally, and she welcomes collaborations with architects, liturgical designers, religious institutions, and patrons seeking original sacred artworks and architectural commissions.
APPROACH
Sculptor and visual artist specializing in monumental sacred sculpture, architectural reliefs, bronze portals, and site-specific liturgical art.
PHILOSOPHY
I do not create to tell the world what I already know. I create to open myself to what I have yet to discover.
For me, sacred art begins in silence — in attentive listening, contemplation, and a willingness to encounter something beyond my own understanding.
The creative process is not simply the execution of a predetermined image. It is a dialogue between the artist, the material, and the emerging form.
Through sculpture, light, texture, and space, I seek a quiet presence that invites contemplation rather than imposes interpretation.
I believe sacred art should not merely illustrate faith, but create a space in which the mystery of faith can be encountered.
My aspiration is to create works that belong naturally to their architectural surroundings while retaining their own spiritual and artistic presence.
