Independent Artistic Work – Jasenka Kapitanovic

Corpus Christi (2014) is an original sculptural glass relief created by Croatian artist Jasenka Kapitanovic.

Measuring 60 × 90 × 2 cm, the work explores the suffering, sacrifice and spiritual presence of Christ through expressive figurative modelling and the transformative qualities of glass.

Unlike traditional stained glass, the work is conceived as a three-dimensional sculptural relief. The artist developed the original model, which was subsequently translated into glass using a kiln-fusing process at approximately 840°C.

The interplay of sculptural depth, colour, texture and transmitted light creates a contemplative visual experience, revealing different qualities as the lighting conditions change.

Corpus Christi reflects the artist’s distinctive approach to contemporary sacred art, combining traditional sculptural craftsmanship with the expressive and architectural possibilities of glass.

The work is suitable for integration into sacred architectural settings, where natural light can become an essential part of its artistic expression.
