Etched glass projects for St. Agnes Catholic Church & St. Paul’s, Rock Creek Parish, reveal the expressive possibilities of etched glass: rendering images in detail with an elusive quality. The images (chemically etched or sandblasted into glass) are more or less clearly visible depending on the light, the time of day, and the viewer's standpoint. The resulting figures have a ghostly presence and seem to exist only partially in our time and space, an apt metaphor for experiences we are often evoking from the past.

The Communion of Saints for St. Agnes is etched in 8 movable glass panels and a door (30 ft wide & 9 ft tall.) The panels separate a Day Chapel, for smaller services, from the adjacent entrance narthex. The panels can be rolled away to combine chapel & narthex into a larger gathering space. The life-sized figures are drawn from scripture and the history of the church, the parish, and the town of Shepherdstown.

Absalom Jones and Harriet Tubman at St. Paul’s are etched in glass inserts in the double doors opening into the sanctuary. Jones, the first African American ordained in the Episcopal Church, is shown in front of St. Thomas, the church he founded in Philadelphia. Tubman is pictured as the Moses of her People, with a staff in her hand and the Dipping Gourd in the night sky pointing to the North Star. Her pose recalls the medieval Virgin of Mercy, with escaping slaves sheltering beneath her cloak.
